Part-Time Animal Care Attendant - Animal Care, Sunnyslope & South Mountain
Job Summary: Clean facility and animal habitats; feed, water and exercise animals brought into the Arizona Humane Society. 20 hours per week. Job Requirements: Must be 21 years of age and
have a valid driver’s license with no violations. A basic knowledge of animals and animal handling is preferred. Must be able to speak, read and write English legibly. Must be able to work flexible work schedule, which may include nights and weekends.
Adoptions Coordinator - Adoptions, South Mountain
Job Summary: Coordinates and oversees the activities of Society adoption counselors. Ensures all on-site adoptions run smoothly. Perpetuates positive public and employee relations. Settles employee disputes and resolves customer complaints and problems.
Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to handle animals in all conditions and be able to train co-workers in job duties and safe animal handling procedures; must be able to read and write English and complete paperwork accurately and legibly. Must possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and be able to resolve conflict. Should have experience in an animal welfare environment. Understanding of retail and cash handling operations is required. Must be able to function in an extremely stressful environment, be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with no moving violations.
Adoptions Manager - Operations, Sunnyslope
Job Summary: Manage SS shelter adoption, offsite adoptions, mobile adoption events and transport department ensuring safety and efficient customer service. Participate in management studies and special projects, make recommendations as requested; assist in the development of new programs; analyze data and prepare reports; develop and monitor annual budget; respond to technical inquiries from outside agencies and general public; develop and implement policy; attend meetings and conferences as directed; review current programs for efficient operation and make recommendations for change as necessary.
Job Requirements: Associates degree in Business Administration or related field and one year administrative experience. Responsible related administrative and supervisory experience may be substituted for education. Prefer three years customer service and supervisory experience in animal welfare field. Knowledge of basic domestic animal care and responsible pet ownership issues; strong interpersonal and customer service skills required. Must be able to handle stressful environments; have knowledge of safe and humane animal handling, restraint and confinement. Ability to utilize fiscal management procedures, budgets, procurement, negotiation skills, and other administrative practices. Knowledge of procedures required for facility maintenance and security. Familiarity with retail and cash handling operations. Must demonstrate excellent oral, written and public speaking skills.
Retail / Adoptions Associate - Desert Sky Mall Store
Job Summary: Assist the public in the matchmaking adoption process of animals in the care of Arizona Humane Society and represent AHS at off-site adoption locations and events. Assist the public with choosing retail products.
Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Arizona Driver’s License and clean driving record. Must be able to handle animals safely and humanely in all conditions. Must be able to read and write English and complete paperwork accurately and legibly. Bilingual: English/Spanish is a plus. Familiarity with computer data entry required. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Able to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends and evenings. Understanding of retail and cash handling operations required. Six months to one year prior retail experience preferred.

Vet Tech I – Sunnyslope
Summary: The Clinic Tech I is responsible in assisting the veterinarians in the treatment of animals and to independently evaluate animals to determine adoptablility. Assists the veterinarians in all aspects of AHS clinics including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy and the administration of prescribed medications.
Skills/Requirements: High School diploma and preferably the completion of a Veterinary Technician program or minimum of one to two years experience at a veterinary hospital or animal welfare organization.
Vet Tech II – South Mountain and Sunnyslope
Summary: The Clinic Tech II assists the veterinarians in the treatment of animals and to independently evaluate animals to determine adoptability. Assists the veterinarians in all aspects of Arizona Humane Society clinics including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy and the administration of prescribed medications.
Skills/Requirements: High School diploma and the completion of the accredited Veterinary Technician program and a minimum of two years of experience at a veterinary hospital. Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology, and perform safe and humane animal handling. Must be proficient in anesthesiology.
Adoptions Counselors – South Mountain (3 positions)
Summary: The Adoptions Counselor will assist the public in the matchmaking adoption process of animals to potential new owners. Represents AHS at off-site adoption locations and events.
Skills/Requirements: Must be able to handle animals safely and humanely in all conditions. Must have great customer service skills. Able to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends and evenings. Must be able to stand and walk long lengths at a time. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
Public Information Officer – Sunnyslope, South Mountain, Field
Summary: AHS has an outstanding opportunity for a Public Information Officer. This individual serves as the primary spokesperson for all media/public matters of the organization. The PIO will identify stories that have the best potential for attracting Valley, regional or national news coverage, as well as stories that are likely to be of interest to AHS donors, partners and constituents. The PIO will then decide on the best ways to make the story available to a variety of audiences.
The position requires a high degree of knowledge, training and skill in translating complex and sensitive situations into the language of the general public. It also requires a well-developed set of skills in targeting stories for and dealing with members of the news media. A thorough understanding of AHS and the ability to tell its many, varied stores to the general public is required. The position requires a high degree of initiative in identifying and developing stories. This position will leverage their expertise and media contacts to continue to position the organization as the leading animal welfare agency through creation of consistent key messages, and will need to be accessible to respond to inquiries regarding shelter operations, breaking news and any crisis communication both internally and externally.
Ideally, this position will have knowledge of the animal welfare industry, veterinary language and other industry trends. The candidate will have already-established media contacts, hold exceptional communication skills and be able to work with a team to bring additional value to convey key messages of the Arizona Humane Society.
• Develops and ‘pitches’ story ideas to news to showcase diversity of AHS services and programs media appropriate; writes and issues press releases in a timely fashion and represents the AHS in all news media locally, nationally and internationally.
• Develops story ideas relative to field operations/second chance animal hospital daily situations. Will commonly be on “scene” to respond to media.
• Supplement storytelling efforts by writing articles or copy for other AHS publications (including but not limited to the newsletter; press kits; and AHS web site)
• Coordinates all press conferences
• Manage crisis communication and media relation policies
• Maximize media coverage for all levels of activity (events, breaking news, follow-up on feature stories)
• Work with a wide range of media outlets, the public and other organizations to effectively raise awareness and communicate key messages
• Develop and build transparent and engaging media relationships
• Work with internal teams for media training/key message consistency, as well as to define strategic communication objectives and key metrics
• Coordinate media coverage and photo opportunities
• Coordinate community tours
• Coordinate public information requests
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Broadcasting or similar related field
• Expertise working with various media outlets while obtaining positive results and relationships
• Expertise working with multi-disciplinary teams with a range of communication styles
• Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills with AP-style knowledge
• Demonstrated analytical ability to work independently and drive results with minimal supervision
• Non-profit experience a plus
• Excellent judgment and decision-making skills are required
• Must be able to meet deadlines and work in time-sensitive matters
• The candidate will be able to use creative approaches to solve complex problems and to function with a high degree of autonomy in decision making. Ability to effectively create and manage crisis communication strategies
• Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
