Got love to spare?

Animal lovers just like you make up our Volunteer Force. While our volunteers come from different backgrounds, they all have three things in common –

  • Compassion for the homeless animals in our community
  • Commitment to work together to create a brighter future for the animals
  • Consistency and reliability in helping us care for the animals and operate our programs

From working directly with the animals to helping prospective pet parents find the right companion, our dedicated volunteers make a difference at the AHS each day! Some of the areas in which our volunteers provide much-needed help include the following:

Adoption and Socialization
Animal Admissions
Field Operations
Foster Care
Public Clinics
Second Chance Animal Hospital™
Stardust Barn
Special Projects

To become an AHS volunteer, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be able to give a minimum of 8 hours per month for at least 6 consecutive months

Share the love!

Are you ready to help the homeless animals in our community and become a valued member of our Volunteer Force? Here’s how to get started:

1.  Choose how you'd like to volunteer.

There are two ways to volunteer with us - you can volunteer at one of our locations or you can foster animals in your home (and you can certainly do both!)

2.  Select your orientation date and complete the appropriate application.

Interested in general volunteer opportunities? Select a General Volunteer Orientation date from the list below to fill out a General Volunteer Application.

General Volunteer Orientation Dates:

Date
Time
Location
Saturday, September 6
9am - 11:30am Sunnyslope Facility
Sunday, September 7
9am - 11:30am Sunnyslope Facility
Saturday, October 4
9am - 11:30am Campus for Compassion
Sunday, October 5
9am - 11:30am Campus for Compassion

Planning to focus on fostering? You’ll need to complete the foster application instead. Select a Foster Volunteer Orientation date from the list below to fill out a Foster Volunteer Application.

Foster Volunteer Orientation Dates:

Date
Time
Location
Wednesday, September 10
6pm - 8:30pm Sunnyslope Facility
Sunday, September 21 2pm - 4:30pm Sunnyslope Facility
Wednesday, October 8
6pm - 8:30pm Sunnyslope Facility
Sunday, October 19 2pm - 4:30pm Sunnyslope Facility

Whether you choose to become a general or foster volunteer, you'll need to select a date for orientation during the application process. We hold each general volunteer and foster orientation twice monthly. (If you have trouble submitting a general or foster application, please click here.)

3.  Attend the orientation you selected.

Pleas arrive 15 minutes early, as we unfortunately cannot allow late arrivals into the orientation.

4.  Attend new volunteer walk-in hours.

This gives us a chance to answer your questions, start your volunteer file, and sign you up for your first shift!  Dates for walk-in hours will be given out during orientation.  (This step is waived for those attending the Foster Orientation.)

5.  Complete the required training.

Don’t worry…we don’t expect you to magically know how to do everything when you first begin! All our volunteers must undergo training for the area in which they’ll work. More information on training is provided during orientation.

Thank you! We truly appreciate your giving your time and talent to help the animals at our shelters!
